Thousands gathered Sunday to pray for peace and justice through the 87th Annual Procession and Mass honoring a revered image of religion in the Catholic Church on Sunday.

The Mass honored Our Lady of Guadelupe, who Catholics consider appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531 in Mexico, the place she left her picture on his cloak. That picture has grow to be a logo of compassion, peace and justice throughout the globe.

Sunday’s was the 487th anniversary of the imaginative and prescient, and officers say the procession is the oldest of its sort in Los Angeles.

The mile-long procession, from the nook of Cesar Chavez Avenue and Ford Boulevard to East L.A. School, featured floats, equestrian teams, mariachis, indigenous dancers and youth. Immersed in the procession was La Peregrina, a copy of the unique picture of the image that’s housed in Mexico Metropolis’s Basilica.

L.A. Archbishop Jose H. Gomez celebrated Mass on the finish of the route. Earlier than the Mass, there was a reenactment Juan Diego’s expertise. And mariachi’s carried out in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
